League of Rocks
Developing Character Through Learning
At Grampian Primary Academy, we believe that success is about more than what children know. It is also about the attitudes, habits and character they develop along the way.
The League of Rocks forms our character and learning attitudes curriculum. Through six learning attitudes, children learn how to approach challenge, persevere when learning becomes difficult and develop the confidence to succeed both in school and beyond.
Rooted in our belief that success belongs to everyone and that we care enough to expect the best, the League of Rocks helps children develop the character traits needed to unlock their positive future.
Our Learning Superheroes
In September 2014, the League of Rocks descended on Grampian Primary Academy and transformed learning across the school.
The six Rocks are woven throughout both the core and wider curriculum. They provide a shared language for learning, helping children understand that success is not simply about getting the right answer, but about developing the attitudes that enable us to learn, grow and overcome challenges.
Each Rock is represented by a unique character who reminds us that having the right attitude to learning is often the key to success.
Meet the Team...

Building Our Learning Power
The League of Rocks helps children to develop the attitudes that underpin successful learning.
Through everyday experiences in lessons, children learn to:
- Persevere when things become challenging.
- Think critically and solve problems.
- Work collaboratively with others.
- Reflect on and improve their learning.
- Take risks and embrace new challenges.
- Show independence, responsibility and resilience.
These attitudes support children not only in their education, but also in life beyond school.
Celebrating Success
Throughout the week, children collect Rocks when they demonstrate the attitudes and behaviours associated with the League of Rocks.
As Rocks accumulate, children are rewarded with:
- Bronze Badge - 4 Rocks
- Silver Badge - 5 Rocks
- Gold Badge - 6 Rocks
Children wear these badges with pride as a visible celebration of their commitment to learning.
Rock of the Week
Each week, children have the opportunity to join their class's League of Rocks.
Children who have shown exemplary commitment to developing a particular learning attitude may be nominated as a Rock of the Week by staff or their peers.
These achievements are celebrated together during our weekly whole-school assembly.
Character for Life
The League of Rocks is about far more than collecting rewards. It is about helping children develop the character, confidence and learning habits that will support them throughout their lives
By learning to persevere through challenge, work collaboratively, think independently and take pride in their efforts, children develop the resilience and determination needed to make the most of future opportunities. These attitudes help children succeed in school today and prepare them to thrive in education, employment and life beyond Grampian tomorrow.
Through the League of Rocks, we help children develop the character to unlock their positive future.
