Where the Journey Begins

At Grampian Primary Academy, we believe that every child deserves a strong start to their educational journey.

Our Early Years provision provides children with the foundations they need to thrive both now and in the future. Through nurturing relationships, high-quality interactions and meaningful learning experiences, we help children develop confidence, curiosity and a love of learning from the very beginning.

Rooted in our mission of Unlocking Positive Futures, our Early Years curriculum develops the knowledge, character and aspirations that children need to flourish in school and beyond.

Learning Through Play, Exploration and Discovery

Children learn best when they feel safe, valued and actively engaged in their learning.

Our curriculum is carefully designed around the Early Years Foundation Stage Framework, balancing adult-led teaching with opportunities for exploration, discovery and child-initiated learning.

Children have access to both stimulating indoor and outdoor learning environments, enabling them to develop independence, creativity, resilience and confidence through a wide range of experiences.

Communication, Language and Reading

Strong communication and language skills underpin all future learning.

Through purposeful talk, storytelling, songs, rhymes and carefully selected core texts, children develop the vocabulary, confidence and communication skills needed to express themselves and engage with the world around them.

Reading sits at the heart of our Early Years curriculum. Learning is built around carefully chosen core texts that form our Reading Canon, helping children develop a love of stories while expanding their knowledge and understanding.

Further information about our approach to phonics, reading and language development can be found in our Building Strong Foundations section.

Developing Knowledge and Confidence

Children are encouraged to explore, question, investigate and make sense of the world around them.

Through carefully planned experiences across all areas of learning, children develop:

  • Curiosity and a love of learning
  • Independence and resilience
  • Early literacy and mathematical understanding
  • Creativity and imagination
  • Physical development and wellbeing
  • Positive relationships with others

These experiences help children become confident learners who are ready for the next stage of their education.

Knowing Every Child

We believe that success belongs to everyone.

Our practitioners take time to understand each child's strengths, interests and next steps. Through observation, assessment and strong partnerships with families, learning is carefully adapted so that every child is supported, challenged and able to make progress.

We want every child to leave Early Years feeling confident, capable and excited about learning.

A Strong Start for a Positive Future

The Early Years are about far more than preparing children for Year 1. They are about developing confident, curious and capable learners who feel safe, valued and ready to explore the world around them. Through nurturing relationships, purposeful play and ambitious learning, we provide the foundations that help every child unlock their positive future.
