Attendance
Every Day Matters
At Grampian Primary School, we know that good attendance is one of the strongest foundations for success.
Children who attend school regularly are more likely to achieve well, build positive friendships, develop confidence and enjoy their learning. Every day in school provides valuable opportunities to learn, participate and belong.
Our mission is to unlock positive futures, and regular attendance plays a vital role in helping children realise their full potential.
Why Attendance Matters
Good attendance supports children to:
- Make strong academic progress
- Build and maintain friendships
- Develop confidence and independence
- Establish positive routines
- Access the full curriculum
- Feel connected to their school community
Attendance is also an important safeguarding responsibility. Knowing where children are and ensuring they are safe is a key part of our role.
Being On Time Matters Too
Arriving on time helps children start the day positively and ensures they do not miss important learning opportunities.
Our School Day
8:30am | Breakfast Club opens. This is for families and is free of charge.
8:45am | Classroom doors open and staff are available to welcome children and families. Breakfast is available in all classrooms.
9:00am | Playground gates and classroom doors close.
After 9:00am | Children should enter via the school office and sign in. Late records and reasons are kept and logged on the school system.
We ask all families to support children in arriving ready to learn each morning.
Reporting an Absence
If your child is unable to attend school, please contact the school office as soon as possible on the first day of absence.
📞 01332 765546
Providing accurate information helps us ensure that all children are safe and accounted for.
Where we have concerns regarding a child's absence, our safeguarding and attendance procedures will be followed. This includes home visits, as you can see in the 5-day attendance plan available at the bottom of this page.
Medical Appointments
Where possible, appointments should be arranged outside the school day.
If this is not practical, we ask that appointments are arranged to minimise disruption to learning. Evidence of appointments should be provided to the school office so that attendance can be authorised appropriately.
If your child is feeling slightly unwell, we encourage them to attend school where possible. Often, children feel much better once they are engaged in learning and spending time with friends.
Should your child become too unwell during the day, we will contact you immediately.
Holidays During Term Time
The government does not permit schools to authorise holidays during term time unless there are exceptional circumstances.
Any request for leave of absence should be made in writing to the Headteacher as early as possible.
Please note that family holidays and leisure activities are not normally considered exceptional circumstances.
Unauthorised absence may result in a Penalty Notice being issued by the Local Authority in line with national regulations.
For further information, please refer to our Attendance Policy.
How We Can Help
We understand that attendance difficulties can arise for many reasons.
Sometimes children may experience challenges relating to:
- Anxiety or wellbeing
- Medical needs
- Family circumstances
- Transitions and change
- Friendships or social concerns
If attendance is becoming difficult, please speak to us as early as possible.
Our Attendance Team and Inclusion Team are here to listen, understand and work with families to find solutions. Early support can make a significant difference.
